As we say goodbye to 2022 and welcome 2023, it is incumbent that we receive and give greetings saying ‘Happy New Year’. But is this greeting rooted in our cultural ethos? If not should we not wish anything to anyone ahead of 2023? Is being a prude the only option to be connected to our roots? The answer is, No. There is a way to be connected to our roots and not be a prude at the same time.
As PM Modi led by example yesterday to show his commitment to work when he attended an official event hours after his mother passed away, he has also led us in this regard as well. PM Modi has been wishing everyone ‘Happy new year’ without saying so at least for the last 10 years.
We just didn't notice it until now. Following PM Modi’s footsteps in this regard can help us connect to our roots and not make us seem like a prude. For years now, PM Modi has wished people a happy respective year and not a Happy New Year. Across India, the Hindu new year starts on different days such as Gudhi Padwa, Diwali, Pohela Boishakh, Vishu, etc. So let us avoid ‘Happy New Year’ and wish everyone a Happy 2023.
Wish you all a happy 2023 from the entire team of NewsBharati. May this year bring good health, joy, prosperity, and peace to everyone.
