Are women evolving in Goa under the ruling govt? Data will never lie

 

A woman plays a very important role in our society, without their empowerment society won't work normally. It has to be one of the high priorities of a government. Women help to shape the growth and development of society. Similarly, Goa has one of the highest women's literacy rates in the country at 92.2% which is much better than West Bengal and Delhi. But how did the current state government empower women and harness their talent to make it central to the party's policy? The data says it all-

 

Unlike other previous governments who only promised women's empowerment before the election, the Goa government has delivered exceedingly well to empower women and enable them to achieve greater heights. It has consistently created opportunities for all women to excel and thrive. To ensure that every woman can live her dream, without financial constraints, the Goa government provides support to them right from birth to education, marriage, and old age, and at every stage of their lives by designing good schemes and implementing them effectively.

 

If we look into Goa's women's education rate, we will find out that, Goa now has one of the highest women's literacy rates in the country at 92.2% which is much better than West Bengal and Delhi. In Delhi, almost 1 in 5 women is illiterate. As per the reports, the female population aged 6 years and above who have never attended school is 16.2% in Delhi. When it comes to women in West Bengal, nearly 30% are illiterate. Reports suggest that 1 in 4 women are not even literate, and West Bengal missed out on sending almost 25% of women to school.

Meanwhile, in terms of financial empowerment, 88% of Goa’s women operate their own bank accounts and 91.2% have their own mobile phones. Further, 96.5% of households now use clean fuel for cooking, which has

tremendously improved the lives of Goan women.

 

Whereas when we look at other states' data, almost 40% of Delhi’s women have never used the internet, almost 30% don’t operate their own bank account, and almost 30% don’t operate a mobile phone. Meanwhile, the situation is worsening in West Bengal as the poverty and lack of women's empowerment in West Bengal is such, that even today, around half of West Bengal’s women don’t even have their own mobile phones.

 

Till 2015, 57% of women in West Bengal didn’t even operate their own bank accounts. After PM Modi’s Jan Dhan Yojana, it has now increased to 76.5% in West Bengal in 2019-20. In contrast, the figures for Goa are 82.8% in 2015-16 and 88.3% in 2019-2020.

 

 

The BJP state government has implemented the Ladli Laxmi scheme for women who are getting married. 72,943 women have been provided with 1 lakh rupees when they get married through this scheme in the last four years. This has saved households from a financial debt arising at the time of marriages at a cost of Rs. 729 crores to the state exchequer.

 

Through the Matru Vandana Yojana, a benefit of INR 15,000 is given to pregnant women and lactating mothers. This has benefited around 19,515 women in the past 4 years alone. To ensure good health for the child and the mother, a supplemental nutrition programme is run for mothers, which makes nutritional food available at low prices of up to Rs. 9 per day.

 

Financial assistance of Rs.1500 per month is provided to housewives from economically weaker sections through the Griha Aadhar Scheme, while single women and widows are provided financial assistance of up to Rs. 2500 per month through the Dayanand Social Security Yojana (DSSY). Every month, around 1.2 lakh women are supported through the Griha Aadhaar scheme, and 35,145 widows are supported through the Dayanand Social Security Yojana.
