Talking to reporters, Eshwarappa said "I'm very disturbed by the murder of a Bajrang Dal activist. He was killed by 'Musalmaan goondas' (Muslim goons). I'm going to Shivamogga now to analyse the situation. We'll not allow 'goondaism'.

Further, he added, "It happened because of DK Shivakumar’s recent statement that the national flag was removed and a saffron flag was hoisted. DK's provocation encouraged Muslim goons." Shivakumar had earlier stated that the tricolour had been brought down and a saffron flag had been hoisted in its place at a college in Shivamogga. However, a video of the incident did not show the national flag being pulled down, as said by the Congress leader.
Harsha was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants Sunday night at the Ravi Varma lane in Bharathi Colony. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in the city following the activist's death. Vehicles were burned down by the miscreants following which the local administration has imposed Section 144.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra clarified that the matter was not related to the ongoing hijab row in the state. "But we need to wait for further investigations before arriving at a conclusion," he said. The home minister spoke to the family of the deceased, who was a tailor, in Shivamogga.
In recent weeks, the situation in Shivamogga had been tense due to the Hijab row.
