Finally, after 2 long years of Pendamic now, people are coming out of their homes to watch a movie in theaters. And no other movie will be better than “Gangubai Kathiyawadi” to start your theater visits again. This movie is based on a book called “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” written by “Hussain Zaidi”. And this film is all about Alia Bhatt and her acting. Alia nailed this film making Gangubai alive on screen.
This movie is based on the true story of Ganga Harjivandas. A small girl from Kathiawad, who has been sold to a brothel in Kamathipura (Mumbai) by her partner, at the age of 15. Then she became Gangubai, a prostitute who fought for the basic rights for women and children in redlight area. It wasn’t easy. Her story is filled with pain and wounds, courage and guts. She became a mafia queen who fought for the betterment of these women, who are abandoned by society. A woman who not only fought with the system but went to Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to get the answers. And Alia nailed all those emotions on screen.
Everyone is praising Alia’s performance as Gangubai. She became Gangubai and we could see that through her eyes. Actor Samatha Prabhu (The Family Man fame) also said that “Words aren’t enough to describe Alia’s performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi”. Which is a big compliment for this cute-faced girl next door actor, who proved her acting talent time and again.

Be it Razi or Highway, Udta Punjab or Two States, and now in Gangubai, Alia proved her acting skills in every project that she took. The movie revolves around Kamathipura, the famous red-light area of Bombay. The timeline is from the ’60s and includes real incidents that took place in that era.
Alia’s performance, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction, and Storyline plus music were overall a great combination and a visual treat to the viewers. It is an experience and must be taken on big screens.
