Eight people including DMK workers arrested for sexually assaulting women for 6 months

Chennai, Mar 22: In a shocking development, eight people, including school students and DMK youth wing cadres sexually assaulted a 22-year-old Dalit woman for six months in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu by allegedly blackmailing her over a video.

The issue come to the fore after the survivor filed a complaint with Virudhunagar Police.
 
Following the complaint, the Tamil Nadu police have arrested eight persons including Hariharan (22) and S Junaith Ahmed (27), both local DMK functionaries, Praveen (21), Madasamy (37) and two Class XII boys and two minors of Classes IX, XI. Police has booked them under 376 (2), 354, 354D of the IPC, section 66 (e) of IT Act, sections 3 (1)(w), 3 (2)(v) of SC/ST Act.
 
As per the complaint accused Hariharan who is also a worker of the DMK youth wing raped the woman on the pretext of marrying her. He then shared it with two friends and four school students. Together, they blackmailed her, saying they would upload private videos to social media platforms. Under this threat, they continued to sexually abuse her for six months.
 
Unable to bear the torture, the victim approached her friend, Madasami, seeking a solution. However, in a tragic turn of events, he also proceeded to sexually abuse her after obtaining the video on his phone.
 
 
 
Taking to Twitter, the Tamil Nadu BJP President said, “Shocked & Saddened to learn about the gang rape of a 22-year-old woman in Virudhunagar by a group of men by allegedly blackmailing her over a video.”
