New Delhi, March 29: "Women have found a stronger voice in the decision-making after BJP government enabled them to own nearly 2 crore houses", PM Narendra Modi said on Tuesday. He was speaking at the virtual ‘griha pravesh’ ceremony of 5.21 lakh houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in Madhya Pradesh.

“The right to own a house has strengthened the woman’s right in making other financial decisions in the household,” Modi said, adding, “This is a matter of case study in big universities across the world.”

The PM said the previous govt had built “only a few lakh houses for the poor in their tenure”. “My government has built 2.5 crore houses for them. Of these, 2 crore are in villages. And, work didn’t slow down despite Corona,” Modi said via video conference. The event was also attended by MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Modi said the only way forward was to empower the poor. “When the poor are empowered, it gives them the courage to fight poverty. When efforts of an honest government come together with that of an empowered poor, poverty loses,” he said. Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to the ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ mantra.
