There is no doubt that women have the potential to reach greater heights on national as well as global platforms. On this International Women's Day, we bring you such tales of women groups who have been instrumental in helping people whose lives were almost in fatal conditions. As everyone knows, there has been a severe Russia-Ukraine conflict going on wherein almost all the countries have been involved in resolving matters. There have been adverse effects in Ukraine especially due to the Russian invasion. This has resulted in people there fleeing the country for safety.
Similarly, according to the Indian government, there were 22,000 Indian nationals stranded in the war-torn country despite the advisories issued by the Indian embassy. In order to evacuate those Indian nationals, the Indian govt started the evacuation program "Operation Ganga". The Indian embassies in neighboring countries have been immensely involved in this program. But what about those people who cannot reach the Ukrainian border countries due to the heavy shelling, bombing, and explosions going on in the east part of the country? How do they manage to reach?
To aid such people, the US-based NGO Sewa International has come forward to assist in getting Indians out from Ukraine and help them in reaching their destination. Sewa Europe is doing yeomen service to these desperate students at ground level. It has a presence in 10 major cities of Ukraine. They are arranging buses/trains for transport and food for these students while on their way to border check posts where they are then taken by Indian embassy staff to airports. The Sewa volunteers have taken part in such situations wherein their own lives are in danger. And guess what, more than one-third of these volunteers are women! There have been around 300+ volunteers of Sewa International. Among them, there are around 100 women volunteers

They have been strong pillars in evacuating these people and helping them reach the border countries. In such chaotic situations, they have been able to evacuate more than 3000 people from Ukraine. These women volunteers belong to India, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Dubai, Finland, and Germany. There are women volunteers coming from Ireland, Kenya, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and UAE. Over 100 women from 25 different countries managed to implement this evacuation program, is this possible? Yes, it is. They have turned this into reality.

Though the Sewa women volunteers belong to different countries who hail from different cultures and backgrounds, they have been united for one sole purpose - to help those who are in need and save their lives no matter how the circumstances are hazardous. The women volunteers have been constantly putting in all efforts the support the needy.
The women volunteers mostly include students who are studying in universities, working women, and married women who have children. Leaving all their life behind, they have in action mode 24x7. They are available online, answering at helpline on phone. Apart from this, there provide 24x7 support, guiding people on a journey way back, co-ordinating in providing basic facilities like food, shelter, and transportation. They have also been taking follow-up via helpline, border updates. It is not only this but also giving moral support and giving the motivation to stay strong in this time. With the hundreds of thousands fleeing the country, the women volunteers are helping even at the borders, especially the students.
Coming from various nations, providing 24x7 support to strangers, and taking such actions in this severe war zone, these women volunteers have definitely set an example for people all around the world. They have spoken a different kind of women empowerment. This is the language that will leave a mark whenever one speaks of helping the needy!
