'Narrow minded Politics': India condemns US Congress woman Ilhan Omar's visit to PoK

New Delhi, Apr 22: India has termed US Congress woman Ilhan Omar's visit to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as 'narrow minded politics' while condemning the visit in an official statement. The Ministry of External Affairs has called Omar's visit to PoK as violation of India's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The remarks of the MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi came during a briefing where he was answering a question on the US representative's visit to Pakistan. US Congress woman Ilhan Omar has been on a visit to Pakistan since early Wednesday (Apr 20) and has met former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan among other engagements. At the same time, as a guest in Pakistan, Omar also visited PoK, extended part of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that according to India, Pakistan has illegally occupied.
 
 
 
 
 
According to Bagchi's statement, "We have noted that she (Ilhan Omar) has visited a part of the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, that is currently illegally occupied by Pakistan." He further added, "Let me just say that such a politician wishes to practice a narrow-minded politics at home, that's her business, but violating our territorial integrity and sovereignty in its pursuit makes this ours and we think the visit is condemnable."

Somalian origin Ilhan Omar belongs to the Democrats and represents the State of Minnesota in the Congress. She is one of the two Muslim women elected in US, in 2018. Omar's family had fled Somalia during the civil war and had come to Minnesota in 1997.
