Pune, May 16: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers attacked Maharashtra BJP leader Vinayak Ambekar over a social media post against party chief Sharad Pawar. The video of the attack was posted by the state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil.
In the video, a few NCP workers are seen having an argument with Ambekar when suddenly a worker donning a white shirt slapped the BJP leader. Following the assault, Vinayak Ambekar lodged a complaint with Pune police. Ambekar has also alleged that NCP MP Girish Bapat asked him to apologise for his social media post.
"Maharashtra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Pvt. Vinayak Ambekar has been attacked by NCP goons and on behalf of BJP, I strongly condemn this attack. These NCP goons must be dealt with immediately!" Patil tweeted.
In the video of this incident, it is seen that Ambekar was sitting in his office, and was visited by a group of NCP workers to ask him a clarification about his Facebook post. Though Ambekar was answering them patiently and was about to give an explanation, an NCP goon slapped him on his face.

Pune police registered a non-cognizable offence against 4 NCP workers who assaulted Ambekar over his “derogatory” social media comments about Sharad Pawar. Earlier on May 15, Ambekar complained that he was assaulted at his Pune office by NCP workers though he had already removed two objectionable lines from the Facebook post voluntarily after he received calls from senior BJP leaders.
Notably, Sharad Pawar is being criticized for the last few days for his controversial remarks about Hindu deities which he made while hiding behind the shield of a piece of poetry penned by Jawahar Rathod.
