New Delhi, May 17: "We categorically reject the farcical resolution passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan on the subject of the delimitation exercise in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir," said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.

MEA spokesperson said that "Pakistan has no locus standi to pronounce on or interfere in matters that are internal to India, including the Indian territories under Pakistan’s illegal and forcible occupation. The entire territory of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has been, is and shall always remain an integral part of India."

The delimitation exercise in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is a democratic exercise based on the principles of extensive stakeholder consultation and participation, he said. "It is regrettable that instead of putting their own house in order, the leadership in Pakistan continues to interfere in India’s internal affairs and engage in baseless and provocative anti-India propaganda," he added.

The MEA also slammed Pakistan saying that it should stop to house terrorism in their country. We reiterate that Pakistan must immediately cease anti-India cross-border terrorism and shut down its infrastructure of terrorism; stop the grave and persistent human rights violations in Pakistan occupied Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh (PoJKL); refrain from effecting any further material changes in the status of PoJKL; and vacate the Indian territories that are under its illegal and forcible occupation.”

Last week on Thursday, the Pakistan Parliament had unanimously passed a resolution denouncing the move. The resolution had been moved by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who claimed that India's decision was aimed at artificially altering the electoral strength of the Muslim majority in Jammu and Kashmir.

The resolution "categorically rejected" the delimitation commission report and alleged that through the delimitation exercise, India was making attempts to further its "illegal actions of August 5, 2019 and subsequent measures." It had also reiterated Pakistan's unflinching commitment and solidarity with Kashmiris and asked the government to highlight and forcefully project the Kashmir cause at all bilateral and multilateral forums including the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

In a statement earlier, the general secretariat of the OIC “expresses deep concern over India’s attempts to redraw the electoral boundaries” of Jammu and Kashmir, alleging it is a violation of the rights of the Kashmiri people. “Referring to the long-standing and principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and relevant decisions of the Islamic Summit and OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, the general secretariat reiterates its solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” it said.
