Thrissur police books Madrasa teacher for sexually assaulting minor boy, accused goes missing

May 24: Amid the ongoing Madrasa row, a case where a minor boy has been sexually assaulted by the madrasa teacher, has come to light from the Thrissur district. The Basheer Saqafi has gone missing since the local filed an FIR against him.

Police have registered a case against Basheer Saqafi (52), a madrassa teacher, under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC). He has been booked for sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy studying at a madrasa. The police have started investigationin the matter.
 
As per the local reports, the accused is from Karupadanna, near Kodungallur, and is the Imam of Anthikad Muslim Jamaat mosque. He tried to molest the victim several times. Several other children have suffered the same fate, but they did not come forward with complaints, fearing slander.
 
It is also being reported that, despite knowing about the violence, the mosque committee was not ready to help the child. This matter came to light after the locals started protesting against the mosque committee. Locals then filed a police complaint against the mosque committee and Basheer Saqafi in the first week of May.
