‘Kindly don’t patronize us, we know what to do’: India gives a befitting reply to the Dutch envoy

New Delhi, May 06: India's permanent representative to the United Nations, TS Trimurti, gave a scathing reply to Karel van Oosterom, Ambassador of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom after the latter said that New Delhi should respect the UN charter. Tirumurti issued a sharp response and asked him not to patronize India.

This befitting reply comes amid when the war of words between the two diplomats that broke out after TS Tirumurti shared his statement made at the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Twitter.
 
Responding to this, Karel van Oosterom tweeted, “You should not have abstained in the GA. Respect the UN Charter.”

Replying to Oosterom’s tweet, Tirumurti said, “Kindly don’t patronize us, Ambassador. We know what to do.” After Trimurti's reply, Karel deleted his erlier tweet. 
 
India had abstained from a resolution criticizing Russian actions in Ukraine. On March 2, India abstained from voting on the resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that strongly condemned Russia for invading Ukraine and called for an immediate withdrawal of all Russian forces.

The resolution was approved by 141 votes in favor, 35 abstentions, and five votes against.
 
On April 7, United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution suspending Russia from the Human Rights Council over its war in Ukraine.The resolution brought by the US was adopted with 93 votes in favor, 24 against, and 58 abstentions, including India.
