Ludhiana, June 1: Three armed men on Wednesday looted cash at gunpoint from a PRTC bus conductor near Ladhowal toll plaza here. The incident occurred at around 7.50am in the morning.
Sahil, the bus conductor, said the bus was heading to Amritsar from Patiala. When it reached the toll plaza, two people on a motorcycle and one on a scooter brought their vehicles parallel to the bus and started hurling abuses at him. On being confronted, the men pointed two country-made pistols at him. They thrashed him and snatched Rs 10,000 in cash and his good chain.
The bus driver also got down to intervene in the matter but they threatened to shoot him. The incident occurred about 2 km from the Ladhowal police station. The men later fled towards Phillaur. After the incident, the bus was parked near the toll plaza and the conductor along with other bus staff employees and passengers blocked the Ludhiana-Jalandhar highway.
Huge traffic congestion was witnessed for about an hour. Later, Assistant Commissioner of Police Harish Behl reached the spot. Police said the CCTV cameras showed that the conductor was arguing with three people but the claims of robbery of cash and gold were yet to be established. Meanwhile, the bus drivers gave an ultimatum to the police to nab the culprits at the earliest or else, they would block the highway again.
