Racist approach? TN minister blames North Indians for Covid spread; Jitin Prasada slams him

Amid the ongoing language row, a new controversy has erupted, after Tamil Nadu, Health Minister Ma Subramanian made a racist remark and blamed the north Indian students for a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

He further goes on and says that students from Kelambakkam VIT College and Sathya Sai College have been affected by COVID in hostels and classes.
 
"North Indian students are spreading COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu. Students from Kelambakkam VIT College and Sathyasai College have been affected by the coronavirus infection in hostels and classes, Subramanian said. In some North Indian states, COVID-19 cases are still increasing, he added.
 
 
 
This is a day after 42 students of the Vellore Institue of Technology (VIT) in Kelambakkam tested positive for the virus. The Institute which has a strength of 5000 students already had reported 33 positive cases as of May 30.
 
In the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu recorded 98 new cases of Covid, pushing the overall tally to 34,55,474. The majority of cases came from two districts - Chengalpet (46) and Chennai (44). Coimbatore and Tiruvallur added four while Kancheepuram, and Vellore added one case each. However, the death number remained unchanged as no new fatalities were reported during the same period.

Meanwhile, reacting to that racist statement, Uttar Pradesh minister Minister Jitin Prasada slammed him saying this was 'an extremely irresponsible and derogatory statement'. He said disease and pandemics do not know any state boundaries and that the minister's statement was an insult to North Indians.
