Stockholm, July 1: Tokyo Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has been bettering his game since he has come back into action this year. The javelin star has now achieved his personal best as well as smashed the National record twice in two months.
In his first Diamond League event in 4 years, Neeraj almost hit the 90m mark – finishing second in Stockholm with a throw of 89.94m. Earlier, he had broke his own national record on June 14. He won the silver medal in the Pave Nurmi Games in Turku by throwing the javelin 89.30 meters away.
Chopra's throw was the tournament's record too, but reigning world champion Anderson Peters breached the 90m mark as he threw 90.31m on his third try to set a new meet record. Later, Chopra failed to improve his first attempt and settled for a silver medal. His other throws were estimated 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m, 86.67 and 86.84m.
Neeraj Chopra, while speaking to the media after the event, described his performance in the Diamond League 2022, pressure of being Olympic champion and expectation from World Athletics Championships.
The next target for the Tokyo Olympics champion will be the World Championships in Eugene in the USA, starting from July 15 to 24.
