Kabul, Jul 28: A bomb explosion was reported near the Karte Parwan gurudwara in Kabul on Wednesday. According to initial reports, the members of the Sikh and Hindu community in the area are safe. The incident comes a month after the Islamic State (IS) terrorists stormed the holy place killing several members of minorities.

"Members of the Sikh and Hindu communities are reported to be safe. Further details are awaited," Puneet Singh Chandhok, President of the Indian World Forum said.

Over a dozen members of the Sikh community and Taliban members were killed in the attack a month ago. Condemning the attack, Chandhok urged PM Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure the safety of Sikhs in Afghanistan. "Alarming news from Kabul A bomb has exploded at a shop of a Sikh hakim located next to Gurdwara Karte Parwan. Strongly condemn this heinous act in Afghanistan. Requesting PM Modi to intervene & seek the safety of our brethren living there & issue their e-visas at earliest," he said in a tweet. The minority community in Afghanistan, which, besides others, also includes Hindus and Sikhs has been a target of violence in Afghanistan. This, despite the claims by the Taliban government that it is working towards ensuring the safety of non-Muslims in that country.

Prior to the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, the number of Hindus and Sikhs in that country totaled about 600. There has, however, been a significant decrease in this number ever since the Taliban came to power in August 2021.
