5 times when Hindu gods were being insulted…!

For the last few days in India, conflict over religious beliefs is increasing. Take Kanhaiyalal or Umesh Kolhe’s killings as an example. But we haven’t s seen this happening when Hindu gods were being insulted. Filmmaker Leena Mainmekalai recently insulted goddess Kaali with her film poster, but this wasn’t the first time when Hindu Gods were being insulted. Here are the 5 major controversies where people shamelessly insulted Hindu Deities and guess what no one was being killed.

So here it goes :

1. Amazon using Hindu God’s picture on Doormats: E-Commerce giant Amazon, the app that we use on a daily basis, also insulted Hindu sentiments, by using Hindu God’s picture on the doormats. Though this product wasn’t designed by amazon, however people called out Amazon for shamelessly selling it. People like cricketer Ravindra Jadeja and Abhijeet Mujumdar also criticized Amazon for selling such bathroom mats and doormats. The question raised is, would amazon ever sell Namaz Prayer Mats, disrespecting Muslim sentiments?

2. Javed Habib’s Spa: It was during Durga Pooja when hair stylist Jawed Habib released a campaign regarding his spa, where we can see Goddess Parvati along with her sons Ganesha and Kartikeya enjoying her time in a luxurious spa. “Gods to visit JH salon” was written on the poster. Post that Hindu community lashed out at Habib and he apologizes for the same, again question raises whether would he ever show bibi Ayesha in the place of goddess Parvati? And if he do so, would his head stay on his shoulders?

3. MF Hussain’s paintings: It was a huge controversy, where famous painter of India MF Hussain showed Indian goddesses in a very derogatory way in his paintings. MF Hussain has hows Goddess Saraswati in a very derogatory manner, without clothes. And it was unacceptable to the Hindu community in India. MF Hussain had to face the lashing out and because of this he left the country and took citizenship of Qatar in 2010. This means he chose to leave the country but not to leave the derogatory paintings. Says all about his intentions.

4. Leila: This web show was all about disrespecting Hindu traditions and gods. It has shown that a Hindu woman married to a Muslim has a daughter by the name of Leela. The daughter is taken away by Hindu nationalists because she is not ‘pure’ enough as she has a Muslim father. Then, the protagonist appears to have been sent to a state-sponsored re-education center where people appear to be brainwashed. The entire show is against Hindu beliefs and Hindus are shown as evil in this show. Which again hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

5. PK: This movie was all about wrong religious beliefs and how religion takes over logic. However, Showing Hindu gods smoking and making fun of Hindu deities is something that is unacceptable. And that’s what the Hindu community disliked. Not just in one scene, in many scenes filmmakers have disrespected Hindu sentiments.

Apart from these controversies, there were many where Hindu gods were insulted, and Hindu beliefs were insulted but we haven’t seen any celebrity holding placards and telling the world how it is wrong to make fun of religious sentiments.
