In the 2022 edition of the Games, the sport has gained more popularity. This comes after India scripted history when the women's fours lawn bowls team entered the final by defeating New Zealand 16-13 in the final. It is a historic feat because this would be India's very first medal in the sport. Many would wonder what exactly is Lawn Bowls exactly! Here is a small guide to it-

What is Lawn Bowls?

Lawn Bowls involves rolling a spherical ball like like objects with flattened sides and a weight bias towards a stationary ball called ‘the jack’ on a ground referred to as a Lawn.

What is a player suppose to do?

The player should roll the spherical ball on the lawn and ensure that it reaches as close to the jack as possible.

How does one score?

A point is given to the team or the player whosoever's bowl is closer to the jack at the end of a round (or an end). If a player or team has more than one bowl closer to the jack than the opponent, then they are awarded the corresponding number of points.

For example: If team A manages to put two balls closer to the target than team B’s closest ball, they get two points for that end. Had it been three balls closer to the target for team A than team B’s closest ball, they would win three points for that end.

How does the lawn bowls ends?

A team is declared the winner if it reaches 21 points before its rival or after the match is done with a total of 18 or 21 ends.
