On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, NewsBharati has come up with an initiative to celebrate India's Independence. We have tried to attempt to introduce 75 Legendary Women of India who have made immense contributions in their respective fields.
At the age of 80, anyone would settle for a peaceful life but Meenakshi Amma has no plans to hang up her swords anytime soon. She was introduced to the ancient martial art, Kalaripayattu, when she was just 7. Kalaripayattu is a traditional form of martial art practiced in Kerala.
Though her husband passed away, she did not shut down her Kalari school. In this advanced world, every year she teaches Kalaripayattu to around 150-160 students. Teaching for almost 60 years, she is a proud recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award.
