Excuse Me – Excuse Your Knee , Not Yourself

As part of my programme on “Work Life Balance”, I generally tell 15 minutes basic- easy to do exercises involving all body parts which does not require any specific equipment and generally request for the feedback from participants. The purpose is to keep on motivating them otherwise some of them leave these exercises after a week or so.

I do the same exercise every morning

Today, one ex participant of my programme called me in the morning for some different purpose. So, I asked him “Is it not your exercise time?”

He was caught unaware.

“Sir, actually my knee is having a very minor niggle so I thought to excuse myself for a day, tomorrow I will be resuming.?

“But tell me, rest of the body is alright?”

“Yes Sir.”

“Why are you not giving exercise to rest of the body parts …why excuse these also, in any case all these exercises are sitting exercises ...”

“I am going to do after this conversation Sir.”

This is what we do in our daily life, we excuse ourself on some pretext or other even when pretext is not valid. This is mental fallacy and has to be avoided at any cost.

I told him about Thomas Muster, He was in top of Tennis circuit, clay court specialist who met with an accident and was wheel bound for more than two years. In two years, he developed his upper body so much, that when he came back to play Tennis again, he was on top of the world immediately and was unbeatable.

Reason is very simple – if you do not excuse yourself on a wrong pretext, you keep motivated …. otherwise, you lose motivation.

Are you motivated now!
