In the latest development, DSP Noor Mustafa of Dumka has been suspended following allegations of negligence and protecting the accused Shahrukh Hussain for weakening the case. This came after the accused Shahrukh had set 12th standard girl Ankita ablaze for refusing his "friendship". She passed away on Sunday who had suffered 90% burns.

This unleashed protests in the Dumka area which is a Muslim-dominating area. Following the protests, it was reported that has been accused of trying to save Shahrukh. Former Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi shared some documents stating that DSP Mustafa has not only been anti-tribal but also had a communal trait to him.

In one such incident, a person named Zulfikar exploited tribals and was booked under the SC/ST Act. He was sent to jail and Noor Mustafa allegedly did not file chargesheet for 90 days. On basis of these documents, Zulfikar got bail. As per Marandi, DSP Noor Mustafa filed the chargesheet sometime after Zulfikar got out of jail.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has raised concerns about change in demography in Jharkhand. He said that what happened to Ankita has happened to thousands of girls and women in Jharkhand. He said that what happened to Ankita is not a normal incident and is a part of larger conspiracy where people of one community are trying to forcefully convert people of other faith to Islam and thereby change demography.

"Naeem alias Chhotu Khan, the second accused in the Ankita murder case, has been arrested. After presenting the accused in Dumka court, he was sent to jail," Dumka SP Amber Lakra confirmed.
