Ramanathapuram, August 09: In a shocking development, Tamil Nadu police arrested a church pastor under the POCSO Act for sexually assaulting young girls coming to church. Police held him from Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu's Ramanathapuram district.
The accused has been identified as John Robert and he was part of the Punithar Arul Anandhar Church in Rameswaram’s Mandapam area. As per the reports police took the action on the basis of the complaint filed by the members of the child welfare committee.
The incident came to light after one of his victims contacted the child welfare authorities and informed them about the crime. On the basis of that complaint, the child welfare authorities conducted confidential investigations into John Robert and the allegations.
After the investigation confirmed that John Robert, who was working as a priest in the church, had sexually harassed the girls, the child welfare officials filed a complaint against the priest at the Mandapam Police Station.
