On 7th September 2022, the heir-apparent of the Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi, embarked on a “Discovery of India” mission, by foot. The yatra is called the “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, which started from the southernmost part of India, Kanyakumari will come to a halt in Jammu & Kashmir, after almost 150 days and roughly around 3500 km. In its wake, the Walkathon is supposed to travel around 12 States across the country.

Mr. Gandhi insists that he is only a participant and not the Leader of the yatra. However, within just a week into the almost 5-month yatra, he has already managed to raise a few eyebrows. Congress seems to have activated the various civil society groups, some of whom were involved with NAC, while UPA was in power. These include co-founder of Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) Aruna Roy, Swaraj Abhiyaan or Swaraj Party head Yogendra Yadav, writer and cultural activist Ganesh Devy, feminist writer and former Planning Commission member Syeda Hameed, and founder of the Safai Karmachari Andolan Bezwada Wilson.

In his three-day journey starting from Kanyakumari, Rahul’s convoy halted at five different churches and schools operated by them. One halt also included a minority worship place in Mettukadai. All this while Rahul quietly sidestepped visiting any of the famous temples in Tamil Nadu.

In Kanyakumari, he met up with the infamous Father George Ponniah, who runs a NGO called “Jananayaga Christhava Peravai” and who was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police, for insulting Hindu Gods. In a subsequent video that went viral, George was seen telling the Gandhi scion that Jesus is the "only real God" for which Rahul nods approvingly. The other notable person that Rahul met in Tamil Nadu is S P Udyakumar, who was the face of the Koodankulam protestors, which were astroturfed by the Church.

After Tamil Nadu, the next pitstop was Kerala. The Congress caravan is expected to spend 18 days in Kerala and from the initial ground reports, it appears Rahul has already managed to ruffle his ally the CPM.

During his Kerala visit, the official Twitter handle of the Congress party put out a controversial tweet with a picture of the RSS uniform being set on fire. This is seen as a call for the annihilation of the members of the Nationalist organization who serve the country selflessly & wholeheartedly. This is what happens when a once-national party outsources ideation and thinking to far-left NGO types.

Though touted as Bharat Jodo, the foot-march covers only 12 states with 20 main points. A casual look at the itinerary exposes the misplaced priorities of the Congress party. The route has been planned only to cover the left-over strongholds of the party completely missing Himachal Pradesh & Gujarat, two States which are poised for Assembly elections. The vital question is the intention behind the Bharat Jodo, the outcome, and whether it will benefit INC in the upcoming elections. With just one week into the 5 months of Bharat Jodo Yatra, expect more gaffes, verbal somersaults, and shocking statements from the Dynast.
