New Delhi, Sept 22: The Saket District Court, Delhi has issued summons to Wikimedia Foundation against the deletion of best-selling author and Bharatiya Janata Party’s spokesperson Tuhin A Sinha’s Wikipedia page.
Sinha’s Wikipedia page existed since 2006 that had full-fledged information about his professional life. It is pertinent to mention Wikimedia Foundation is an organization that runs the Wikipedia platform and provides the open-source wiki software MediaWiki for free.
On September 5, Tuhin Sinha took to Twitter and informed about his Wikipedia page abruptly taken off this year that had existed since 2006. Speaking about Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh's controversy, he tweeted, "I hope @Wikipediatreats this as a wake up call and rectifies it’s flawed conduct . My full fledged wiki page that had existed since 2006 was abruptly taken off this year. If wiki does not restore it asap they must prepare for a long legal battle."
Informing about the important development today, he said, "The Court has issued summons to Wikimedia Foundation against deletion of my Wikipedia page which in my opinion has been done in gross violation of the Intermediary Rules of 2021 as well as Wikipedia's own guidelines."
Further, he said, "This will far-reaching consequences on the intermediary’s arbitrary conduct in India n as its unchallenged ability 2 manipulate information. This is a decisive battle 4 truth. Will share more details soon."
Earlier, on March 22, Sinha tweeted that Wikipedia had deleted his page that had existed since 2006. He said, “The only thing that may have irked them in last few days is my support four #KashmirFiles n me calling out Cong supported Jihad network.” In a follow-up tweet, Sinha informed that a Wikipedia user Shirt58 was behind the page’s removal.
