The video of the event is making rounds on social media and has stoked a row of controversy on the platform. Not just that, he also discourages the person sitting next to him from standing up to pray.

Many people, including the KPCC, condemned the chief minister's actions. Sharing a video clip, BJP claimed that the chief minister has insulted 'Hindu astha' by not standing up for a Hindu prayer. Taking a social media account the BJP's Preeti Gandhi took a dig at the CPM leader and asked Would he have shown such disrespect for a prayer of any other religion?! Hindu rituals don't deserve respect??

It should be reminded that, last week a CPM leaders insulted Lord Ayyappa saying he was born out of an unnatural relationship. Besides him, another CPM leader Rajesh said Shankaracharya was not the Acharya of Kerala as he “preserved caste system and varnashrama system”.
