Thales, a French multinational technology company, plans to open a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India's National Capital Region (NCR) before the end of the year.
While the precise investment number for the future MRO facility specialized to avionics and in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems is unknown, Sourisse stated that the initial phase will see tens of millions of Euros invested.
Thales intends to supply the technology to create a biometric-based "DigiYatra" for the Adani Group's 'flight to gate solution' at airports owned by the company.
Thales is present on a worldwide scale in three key areas: avionics, military, and digital identity/cybersecurity.
Thales now employs 2,000 people in India, 1,500 of them are engineers. The company has a large facility in Noida with 1,000 engineers and another 500 engineers in Bengaluru.
It is also worth noting the company's involvement in outfitting Airbus commercial aircraft, such as the A320, A330, and A350, with a comprehensive flight management system (FMS) that improves data access and minimizes carbon emissions.
Thales' contributions to the aviation sector include avionics for Airbus planes used by IndiGo and Air India, as well as IFE technology and in-flight networking solutions.
The decision to open an MRO facility in India was motivated largely by the desire to serve major clients in the area as well as cater to the developing aviation sector. India now has the fastest-growing aviation market in the world and is the world's third-largest market.
Thales has ambitious ambitions for development in India, including joint ventures with Bharat Electronics for radar systems and Reliance for defence efforts.
Finally, Thales' commitment to building an MRO facility in India demonstrates the company's commitment to effectively supporting its clients and expanding its operations in an area with great development potential.
