On Thursday morning, Hamas-affiliated media stated that Jamila al-Shanti, the first woman elected to the Hamas politburo, was killed in an Israeli bombing.
The claim came only hours after Israel confirmed the death of Rafat Abu Hilal, the senior commander of Gaza's Popular Resistance Committees.
According to the military, Abu Hilal was murdered in Rafah.
Shanti, 68, was Hamas co-founder Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi's widow. In 2021, she was voted to its Politburo.
She was also a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
Her spouse was slain in a deliberate killing by Israel in 2004.
Other attacks, according to the IDF, targeted anti-tank missile launch sites, terror tunnel shafts, intelligence infrastructure, and more command centres.
Israel has been attacking Hamas targets in Gaza since a surprise attack by Hamas on Israeli settlements near the Gaza border on October 7.
