The Communist Party of India (Maoist) purportedly threatened to blow up the "Hamas rally of fake comrades" in a letter to the District Collector of Kozhikode if the government and police action against Maoists is not stopped.
According to a district administration source, the Maoists claim in the letter that the government is staging demonstrations for "foreign terrorists" rather than focusing on the concerns of Kozhikode district. According to the source, the letter was received by the Collector's office on Wednesday evening and transferred to the police. It says that Maoists are being unfairly targeted and that bogus charges against them are being filed.
The Maoists have warned that if the government does not cease unfairly targeting them and filing false cases against them, what happened in Kochi at the Jehovah's Witness convention may be expected during the "Hamas rally of fake comrades" in the area, he claimed.
The officer further stated that the SHO of Nadakkavu police station has been informed of the situation and that a complaint would be filed against the Maoists there.
A Nadakkavu police officer stated that a case will be filed during the day under the provisions of the IPC and the Kerala Police Act.
The letter follows recent violent clashes between Maoists and specialized Kerala Police units in the state's Kannur and Wayanad districts.Kerala police's elite Thunderbolt unit engaged in gun battles with Maoists twice this week in Kannur district. Prior to it, the Thunderbolt force and Maoists exchanged fire in a forest region in Wayanad last week.
After a gun fight in the Periya region of Wayanad's Thalappuzha police station boundary, two Maoists — a man and a woman — were apprehended. Chandru and Unnimaya were their names.
A gang of six armed Maoists took possession of a private resort in Makkimala, Wayanad, last month. During the event, they confiscated the manager's cellphone in order to make a statement to the media about the difficulties that estate workers endure.
