"Yes, customers are showing interest in the fighter."
"I can say that over the last two years, we have made certain changes to the project to best suit the needs of customers interested in single-engine aircraft," the deputy prime minister told reporters.

Russian experts, in particular, have made changes to the aircraft's architecture, control, and weaponry systems, he said.

"This relates to the design, control, and armament systems of aircraft." As a result, much work has been done in this area, with the original Checkmate version shown here [in the United Arab Emirates] serving as the foundation," Manturov added.

The Sukhoi Aircraft Company's (part of the United Aircraft Corporation) Checkmate light tactical fighter was debuted at the MAKS 2021 international airshow in the Moscow neighborhood of Zhukovsky. The overseas debut of the new combat jet was conducted at the Dubai Airshow 2021 in the United Arab Emirates. The new combat jet developed on its own by Russia's state tech corporation Rostec is a derivation of the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter.
In response to the potential of international partners joining the project, the deputy prime minister stated that "such ideas and proposals" were on the table, but that the Checkmate fighter will be manufactured in Russia in the near future.
Russia plans to build its first Checkmate fighter prototype by late 2025

According to Manturov, the first Checkmate fighter prototype might be ready by the end of 2025.

"I expect this [the creation of the first Checkmate fighter prototype] will take place before the end of 2025," he told reporters.

Checkmate, Russia's latest fighter

The new single-engine fighter is equipped with an inboard compartment for airborne air-to-air and air-to-surface weaponry and is based on stealth technology. The fighter will be able to strike up to six targets at once and carry a payload of more than 7 tons.

The Checkmate fighter will be able to fly at Mach 1.8 (1.8 times the speed of sound) and have a range of 3,000 kilometers. The airplane will be powered by a high-efficiency engine.

Russia's most advanced fighter is set to compete with the F-35A Lightning II of the United States and the JAS-39 Gripen of Sweden. The Checkmate integrates cutting-edge technology, such as its open architectural configuration to match the needs of the client and unique artificial intelligence technologies.
