Pune, Dec 21: Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), attended the ongoing Pune Book Festival, digitally partnered by NewsBharati at Fergusson College on Thursday and commended the event as a "Remarkable Activity" that contributes significantly to fostering a culture of reading.

The ICCR President also highlighted the festival's role in creating a intriguing environment for readers and emphasized the need to move beyond book purchases to active reading engagement.

Speaking about the Pune Book Festival, he saod, "First of all, it has created a very important climate. It has promoted reading culture because in our country, people purchase books but hardly they read books." He lauded the innovative approach of involving parents in reading sessions with their children, foreseeing a positive impact on future generations.
 
 
 
Further, he also expressed confidence that the National Book Trust of India and the Pune Book Festival organizers "will plan several such activities to promote the culture of reading books".

"Purchasing books is important but reading books is more important," he emphasized, underscoring the festival's role in conveying this message to its attendees. Sahasrabuddhe also said this event would inspire a renewed commitment to reading among visitors.

When queried about recommended reads on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sahasrabuddhe shared, "Well, I don't know whether five books are really required to be read. One book by Gajanan Bhaskar Mehendale is enough to appreciate the historic contribution Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj." While acknowledging the importance of other books on the subject, he strongly recommended the work by Gajanan Bhaskar Mehendale as a comprehensive and insightful resource.

The Pune Book Festival continues to draw literary enthusiasts, fostering a vibrant cultural space taking place till 24 December at Fergusson College, Pune.
