Mumbai, March 17: In a major development, India's Communist Party of India (CPI) has been landed in a big controversy, as the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has categorised the CPI as the 12th deadliest terror organisation in the world for the year 2022. This ranking puts CPI even higher than Lashkar e Taiba, which is ranked 16th on the list.
It should be noted that, recently, the Australia-based orgnisation released the Global Terrorism Index 2023, in which they have listed the twenty most deadly terrorist organizations globally. Notably, the Communist Party of India is a political party, and it is possible that IEP got confused with the banned communist parties.
According to this list, the deadliest terror group in the world is ISIS. The second place belongs to the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab in Somalia. As per the report, in 61 attacks initiated by CPI, 39 people lost their lives, and 30 were injured.
A report by the Institute for Economics and Peace also lists the countries with the highest number of terrorist attacks. Pakistan is the first country. It is also noteworthy that India's name is not on this list. Syria is in second place.
The four deadliest terrorist groups in 2022 are ISIS, al-Shabaab, JNIM and BLA. Afghanistan is one of the countries most affected by terrorism. Mali, Syria and Pakistan are also on this list.6,701 deaths occurred due to terrorism in 2022. But this is 35 per cent less than in 2015. It is reported that terror attacks have also decreased.
