When can you judge a person, an organisation, a nation or a society? Peaceful times give no lesson, everybody and anybody can sustain. It is crisis time that we find the real value of person or an organisation. Second wave of corona was such an event and gave us an opportunity to differentiate between tree and wood. People were scared to come out but probably this policeman did not have a choice. But I had a choice? Choice of appreciating his efforts Let us find out through this story.

Corona Warrior

I was just coming back from my evening walk, after a long time, in Viman Nagar, Pune. It was 6.45 PM and corona curfew(?) was to start at 7 PM. I was just rushing back to my home when I saw a policeman just deployed at road junction Infront of Symbiosis College.

I could make out, he was overworked , tired and exhausted . Drizzling has also started, visibility was also down a bit, over all it was a uncomfortable time to be out of comforts of your home, that too when second wave of Corona was on and every one of us was so scared due to its unpredictability . I could think of discomfort of this policeman. I just went to him and told him -"You are doing a wonderful job as an individual and as an organization also. I understand that these are trying times but please note that we appreciate your contribution for the society." Suddenly I found a big smile on his face and change in his body posture.

“Hope you had your lunch, if you want, I can bring something from home, which is just 100 meters from this place.”

He politely refused.

“I hope your family is alright.”

“My wife is admitted in the hospital and parents are in village. Doctor told me that my wife will recover in a day with some weakness which will take some time, so, it is OK.”

“Anything I can do for you?”

" Yes Sir, in last three months, you are the first person who has given the appreciation …, he just put his right hand on his heart with all humility. Please keep on doing this, whenever you meet a policeman. We are also human beings and passing through very critical and taxing times.” In these trying times in our society, we should not forget that small things make big differences in the motivation level of people. Never be miser in your appreciation. Good times are ahead.
