Kerala Train Fire: Alappuzha-Kannur Express falls prey to arson again; Probe on

One coach of the train was gutted in the fire. However, no casualties were reported. It"s the same train that was involved in the Kozhikode train arson case two months ago.

 Months after the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train was attacked by arsonists in April, the train yet again caught fire at Kannur Railway Station in the wee hours of Thursday. The incident happened while the train was at a halt at the railway station.

One coach of the train was gutted in the fire. However, no casualties were reported. It's the same train that was involved in the Kozhikode train arson case two months ago. A fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control after they received a call about the incident. The other coaches of the train were separated from the coach on fire.
 
Meanwhile, the police searched the CCTV footage of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and saw an unidentified person entering the train, following which the fire incident took place.
 
 
 
Kerala BJP chief K Surendran accused the state government of supporting fundamentalist groups and said that it was an act of terrorism. "What happened in Kannur yesterday night is another act of terrorism. The same train was attacked 3 months ago. Kerala is becoming a hub of terror activities and the state government is always supporting the fundamentalist groups. This incident proves that terror sleeper cells are active in Kerala," he said.
 
Earlier on April 2, an appalling train arson incident in Kozhikode district killed three people, including a baby. The case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Railway Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
 
Accused Shahrukh Saifi had set fire to the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express when it reached Korapuzha bridge near Elathur in Kozhikode when it reached Korapuzha bridge near Elathur Kozhikode.
 
Nine people suffered burn injuries in the incident. Police suspect that the three dead fell off the train while trying to escape the fire.
