The Lucknow node of the UP Defence Corridor may soon begin producing state-of-the-art BrahMos missiles, which might provide a significant boost to the state's economic and social growth. The project has been approved by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Sudhir Kumar Mishra, director general of BrahMos Aerospace, met with the CM on Tuesday. Mishra requested 200 acres of land in the Defence Corridor in a letter to UPEIDA CEO and additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Awasthi. "We have decided to provide BrahMos Aerospace with land." "The aerospace delegation also met with the CM today," Awasthi.
The project is projected to employ roughly 10,000 people, including skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees. The unit would require around 500 engineers and technicians, with the remainder working in auxiliary units.
The BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile is the world's only one-of-a-kind, accurate, and cutting-edge cruise missile. BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture of DRDO, the government of India, and NPOM, the government of Russia, planned, developed, and manufactured it. According to Mishra's letter.
At the moment, all three services of the Indian defence forces have this weapon system, he noted, adding that defence minister Rajnath Singh has already given his approval to proceed with the project.
The DRDO, which is a major shareholder in the joint venture, proposed to establish a production facility for BrahMos-NG in the UP defence corridor, according to the letter, and added that because this is a project of national importance, such a facility must be established in a location with strategic depth as well as connectivity to air, rail, and road. The required land area is around 200 acres.
It is based on the P-800 Oniks cruise missile technology developed by Russia. During the Investors' Summit in January 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of a military corridor in Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, the state government announced the establishment of defensive corridors at the nodes of Lucknow, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Agra, and Aligarh.
Many local and foreign firms providing defence-related products signed MoUs worth Rs 50,000 crore for investment in the corridor during the Defence Expo-Lucknow in February 2020. The majority of the MoUs for the corridor being created in Andla on Khair Road in Aligarh have been signed.
Following this, other companies expressed interest in investing in the Lucknow node. According to UPEIDA authorities, around 29 enterprises made applications to the government for the establishment of factories in the Aligarh node and sought land.
Similarly, 11 enterprises in the Lucknow node, six in the Jhansi node, and eight in the Kanpur node have asked for land to build factories there. UPEDIA has so far granted 55.4 hectares of land in the Aligarh node to 19 multinational enterprises based on applications submitted from various companies.
According to the BrahMos project proposal, the business has manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Bilani and has orders worth Rs 35,000 crore from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The proposal also indicates that the Indian Air Force has expressed interest in BrahMos-NG missiles, which would cost roughly Rs 8,000 crore and will be supplied over the next five years as per news article in Times of India.
Similarly, identical directives are being discussed with the Indian Army and Navy. In the following five years, the partnership anticipates further export orders totalling Rs 10,000 crore. The expected order will be around Rs 42,000 crore. The proposal also seeks to produce the aforementioned order in UP.
According to the project plan, Rs 300 crore would be spent in civil infrastructure, and development would commence within three months after site acquisition.
The project is projected to produce 300 missiles by the third year and to generate GST worth Rs 360 crore every year. The proposal report claimed that the research and development work would be finished by the third year.
According to sources, the letter of clearance from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is anticipated shortly.
