With an aim to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recently includes two more places including Shivsrushti , in its heritage walk.
About Shivsrushti?
Shivsrushti is the largest, historical theme park in Asia, which is based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The project was conceptualised by Babasaheb Purandare, who had formed the Maharaja Shiv Chhatrapati Pratishthan for its execution.
The Theme park is designed like a collage of the 16th and 17th-century Maratha culture mainly revolving around the Lifetimes of CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ and the Concept of HINDAVI SWARAJYA. This theme is showcased through the historical landscape depicting that era and built forms such as Forts, Shrines, Bazarpeth, village scenes, and street furniture elements like Deepmal, Step Wells, Chavdis, etc.
Apart from Shivsrusti, the PMC also added Sinhagad Fort in it. The existing heritage walk covers places in the old city areas, such as Shaniwarwada, Vishrambaugwada and others.
Officials said that they are working on three or four more routes that will showcase the culture of the city.
An official said, “There are many historical places in and around the city. Sinhagad Fort is one such location, which has historical importance and it is also a tourist attraction. We are exploring if more such places can be included in the heritage walk to make it more interesting for people. Since these places will be outside the city, requiring travel, we will explore the options for travel and other details.”
“Our experience of the heritage walk has been good so far. We are also planning to improve the services based on the feedback we have received so far,” an official added.
Presently, the PMC conducts a ‘Know Pune’ heritage walk every Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 7 am from Shivaji Bridge near the PMC headquarters and concluding around 9.30 am at Vishrambaug Wada.
