The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar has entered the World Book of Records (London) as Asia's largest such park. The garden is adorned with 1.5 million tulip bulbs from an ensemble of 68 distinct varieties, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri wrote on X, formerly Twitter. A lakh visitors have visited the picturesque garden, the Union Minister said.

It is an extremely appreciable step for the floriculture department which results tulip garden as well as whole department will get new heights in future. Lesser-known facts about Tulip Garden

 
1. According to Srinagar Tourism, the park was opened in 2007 with the aim of boosting floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley. It is built on sloping ground in a terraced fashion, consisting of seven terraces.
 
2. The Jammu and Kashmir administration annually organises a tulip festival that aims to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as part of their tourism efforts. It is held during the onset of the spring season every year.
 
3. Affectionately known for its breathtaking vistas, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden boasts not only a splendid array of tulips but also provides sanctuary to an array of other flower species - Delicate Daffodils, fragrant Hyacinths, resplendent Roses, charming Ranunculi, vibrant Muscaria, and enchanting Iris blooms flourish alongside the iconic tulips
 
4. The Tulip Garden is also home to many birds and animals. Visitors can spot several species of birds such as common cuckoos, parakeets and kingfishers. The garden also provides a habitat for some rare species such as black-necked cranes and spotted owlets.
 
5. The garden is home to many ancient monuments that are worth visiting for their historic and religious significance.
