UP: Arrested for girl's 'molestation & murder', Shahbaz, Faisal, and Arbaz try to escape, get caught

Ambedkar Nagar, Sept 18: Three persons, who were arrested in a sensational case related to the death of a 17-year-old girl student during a molestation bid in Ambedkar Nagar on Saturday, attempted to escape from police custody on Sunday. While escaping, the accused also tried to snatch weapons from the police personnel, prompting the police personnel to fire shots at them.

However, they were eventually re-arrested after an exchange of fire. On Sunday, the accused, Shahwaz, Arbaaz, and Faisal, all in mid 20s, snatched a rifle from a police officer while they were being taken to the hospital before being sent to jail.

 

Shahwaz and Arbaaz sustained bullet injuries in the exchange of fire, while Faisal surrendered. The two injured men are undergoing treatment at the hospital and are in stable condition.

 

Ambedkar Nagar SP Ajit Sinha said that the incident took place when the accused were taken to the hospital for medical tests. All the accused have been booked under Sections 302, 354, 298 and 304 of the IPC along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

 

 

It is notable that the criminal act took place when the accused pulled the dupatta of a schoolgirl while she was returning home from school on Friday, September 15, causing her to fall, and another motorcyclist ran over her in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district.

 

The victim suffered a broken jaw and severe head injuries, and she bled to death. The miscreants fled the scene as commuters responded to the incident and rushed the victim to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

 

Superintendent of police, Ambedkarnagar, Ajit Kumar Sinha, said that the police have registered a case of outraging modesty and causing death due to negligence against the three accused and arrested them.

 

The incident has evoked strong protests from residents, who say that the police have failed to control the miscreants who target girls. They said that the victim lost her life due to the eve teasing incident and Faisal's careless driving.

The police also arrested all the three accused.
