A cyber assault on Pizza Hut exposed the personal information of pizza enthusiasts all around Australia according to a news report in news.com.au.
In an email to customers on Wednesday, the famous fast-food company, which has 251 locations throughout the country, reported that it had been hacked. "In early September, we became aware of a cyber security incident in which an unauthorized third party gained access to some of the company's data," stated Pizza Hut CEO Phil Reed.
"At this stage,we have confirmed that the data impacted relates to customer record details and online order transactions held on our Pizza Hut Australia customer database." Customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, and delivery addresses, according to the pizza company, have been accessed.
“If you have a Pizza Hut Australia user account, it also includes unusable masked credit card details and secured one-way encrypted passwords,”Mr Reed continued. "The credit card details we hold cannot be used to make fraudulent payments & all credit card payments are processed securely by an approved payment platform."
When the firm learned of the issue, it claimed it took "immediate action" to safeguard consumers by hiring forensic and cyber experts and initiating an investigation to determine what happened and identify data that had been damaged.
According to reports, the corporation disclosed the incident to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Pizza Hut is now reminding consumers to be wary of any unusual messages, emails, or phone calls.
