Ending all speculations about his political plunge, Tamil superstar Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar aka Thalapathy Vijay, on February 2 entered Tamil Nadu politics after he launched a political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazham (TVK). He stated his commitment to “fundamental political change” with transparent, caste-free, and corruption-free administration.
However, the actor stated that he will not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections and will not be supporting other political parties. This means his party is eyeing the next Assembly Elections in 2026.
The Leo star made this breaking announcement after his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, gave a thumbs-up to the formation of the political party in a meeting last week, which was held in Chennai. The report says nearly 200 people attended a general council meeting of the party ahead of approaching the EC for registration. The name of the political party to be launched by Vijay is yet to be revealed.
He added, “Politics is not just another career for me. It is a sacred people’s work. I have been preparing myself for it for a long time. Politics is not a hobby for me. That is my deepest desire. I want to fully involve myself in it.”
Talking about the actor’s political move, the statement further read, “You are all aware of the current political climate. Administrative malpractices and corrupt political culture on the one hand, and a divisive political culture which strives to divide our people on the lines of caste and religion on the other hand. Everyone, especially, in Tamil Nadu is yearning for a fundamental political change that can lead to a selfless, transparent, caste-free, visionary, corruption-free and efficient administration”.
Thalapathy Vijay will be next seen in GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), which is being directed by Venkat Prabhu. He's expected to stop acting in movies after that and would channel his energies into his political aspirations.
Apart from his huge box office collections, Vijay is a real-life crowd-puller. Vijay has a massive fan following in Tamil Nadu and has been involved in various public welfare activities.
Vijay had in the past indicated that he would make his political debut in 2026. However, his fans had urged him to initiate registering his party at the earliest, reported India Today last week. The Tollywood superstar, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, aka, Vijay, has always portrayed the "saviour" image. That is one image that he has stuck to in all his films, never experimenting with it.
