Vikrant Massey has donned the role of a fearless journalist on a warpath against the system to unravel the truth about the 2002 Godhra massacre amidst political pressure and media cover-up in the teaser of 'The Sabarmati Report', dropped by the makers on Thursday.

Vikrant massey the sabarmati report teaser

The one-minute-eight-second-long teaser, also featuring Yodha star Raashii Khanna and Jawan actress Ridhi Dogra, takes us to the on-field media coverage following the burning of Sabarmati Express in Gujarat’s Godhra on the morning of February 27, 2002. This had reportedly led to the death of 59 Hindu passengers.

In the film, Vikrant plays the role of Hindi journalist Samar Kumar, who teams up with a fellow reporter, played by Raashii Khanna, and a senior anchor, played by Ridhi Dogra. They break the news of the Godhra incident and are convinced that it wasn’t an accident but an attack on the pilgrims.

The video begins with a sequence of vandalism as the train returning from Ayodhya is stopped and pelted with rocks. The following clips feature chilling scenes of passengers trapped inside the burning train. The camera then shifts to Vikrant, explaining to his boss (Ridhi) the significance of the news.

The tension quickly escalates as Vikrant refuses to accept that the burning of the Sabarmati Express was only an accident. One of the dialogues by Vikrant Massey says "Aag lagi nahi thi, Aag lagayi gayi thi" which catches significance behind the movie. He argues that the entire nation is eagerly waiting for the media to reveal the truth, but the media is hindered by the influential figures of our society. Meanwhile, Raashii is seen supporting the actor on his quest for truth.

“Pura desh sach janne ke liye media ki taraf dekhta hai aur humare media sach ko dikhane se pehle apne upar baithay hue malik ko dekhte hai (The whole nation looks at the media to report the truth but the media looks at their boss before showing the truth)," he said.

By the end of the teaser, Samar touches upon the national language debate as he puts forward a case for the Hindi language and says, “Haan mein hu Hindi wallah, aur mere jaise iss desh mein crore hai jo Hindi bolte hai. Toh ek din aisa aaega jab Hindi humare pehchan dubara banege aur tab India banega Bharat (I am a Hindi speaker like crores in the country. That day will soon come when Hindi will become our identity and then India will become Bharat).”

Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, The Sabarmati Report will arrive in theatres on May 3.

Earlier, the makers released a promotional clip, announcing The Sabarmati Report. The clip featured Vikrant sitting in a studio as he announces the news on February 27, 2002, when the Godhra train burning occurred.
