As many as five lakh names have been deleted from the electoral rolls of Hyderabad in the past one year as part of a cleansing exercise. Among the deletions are voters who have died, relocated, and duplicate entries.

Across the 15 assembly constituencies in Hyderabad district, a cumulative tally of 47,141 deceased voters, 439,801 relocated voters, and 54,259 duplicate voters have been removed from the electoral list, totalling 5,41,201 voters.

“The election machinery in Hyderabad has been working towards ensuring purity of the electoral rolls and implementing measures for conducting fair elections. Efforts have been undertaken to ensure that polling stations are not only conveniently located but also compliant with all Election Commission regulations,” said Ronald Rose, district election officer and GHMC commissioner, just a day before nomination process starts.

During the purification process, it was noted that numerous voters were listed with non-standard house numbers in the electoral rolls. Consequently, a campaign was launched to identify and rectify discrepancies, leading to the identification and rectification of 1,81,405 such entries.
