The trailer of the much-anticipated movie of the year, Kantara Chapter 1, has finally been released. Widely regarded as the biggest upcoming pan-India film, it has been creating immense buzz ever since its announcement, with audiences eagerly awaiting its arrival. Now, the most-awaited day has finally arrived, as the trailer of the film was dropped on the auspicious day of Navratri Day 1.
The makers took to social media to release the trailer and wrote,
"A saga of folklore, faith, and fire, born from our soil."The trailer offers tantalising glimpses while holding back many details, using a mysterious tone to build suspense. Still, keen-eyed fans have noticed many subtle parallels to the original film and hints about the new film’s themes. Some highlights people have pointed out:
- The trailer opens with the same shot as Kantara (2022), where Shiva’s father disappears.
- Gulshan Devaiah plays King Kulashekara, presumably a Tuluva Alupa king. The Tulu Kodi (flag) is visible in the background, hinting at regional identity. The sun and moon symbols associated with it imply longevity (“the land shall exist till the sun and moon exist”).
- There’s a voice-over: "Whenever a human turns towards Adharma, Bhagwan Shiva sends his Ganas to save the Dharma. All those Ganas lived on this very land", and in the next scene, there is a meteor-like object seems to fall in a forest — possibly signaling one of Shiva’s Ganas (maybe Rishab Shetty’s character).
- We see a younger version of Rishab Shetty’s character, possibly one of those Shiva Ganas.
- A tiger appears, and Rishab's mannerisms seem to mirror the tiger; some suggest a symbolic parallel between the tiger first seeing him when he lands on Earth.
- The term “Berme” (or similar) is thought to refer to “Bermer / Bommai / Bermeru,” reputedly an ancient powerful deity in Tulu folklore, tied to Daivaradhane
- Also, there are paralles between characters & events in Kantara (2022) and Chapter 1: for example, Pramod Shetty’s character in 2022 (as Devendra Suttur) is seen as similar to the right-hand man of King Kulashekara in this prequel. The act of burning the forest ordered by the king appears again. A visual of Panjurli Daiva forming from a burning tree is also pointed out.
- Overall, the story will revolve around a sacred forest, its protectors, tyranny (oppressive rulers), Ganas and Dharma
Meanwhile, Rishab Shetty and Hombale Films are leaving no stone unturned in carrying forward the legacy of this 2022 blockbuster. From curating an extensive war sequence involving national and international specialists to creating an own kingdom spanning over 25 acres, the makers are affirm to deliver a visual spectacle that is poised to entral the audience.
Filmed over 45–50 days in a specially constructed town spread across 25 acres of challenging terrain, this sequence ranks among the largest ever in Indian film history.
With the worldwide release on October 2, the makers are keen on living up to the expecation of the Kantara and have planned to release in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali and English languages making the story reach audiences across languages and regions while remaining deeply rooted in its cultural core.
