Assam govt publishes Assamese edition of acclaimed book "Great Minds on India"

In a significant step towards promoting India’s intellectual heritage in regional languages, the Government of Assam has published the Assamese edition of the internationally acclaimed book Great Minds on India, authored by Shillong-based writer Salil Gewali. The publication has been undertaken through the Assam Publication Board, making the work accessible to a wider Assamese readership.
The book is the outcome of over two decades of dedicated research into India’s civilisational knowledge and global intellectual influence. The Assamese translation and publication received formal approval from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Great Minds on India has already been translated into sixteen languages, including German, Arabic, Urdu, and Sanskrit, and has drawn appreciation from prominent leaders, scholars, and intellectuals in India and abroad.
The Assamese edition has been published under the chief editorship of former NASA scientist Dr. A. V. Murali and translated by noted Assamese scholar Shri Suren Goswami, with editorial guidance from senior journalist Achyut Patowary of Guwahati.
Adding to its academic and cultural significance, the book features a commendation letter from former Governor of Assam Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, a foreword by Dr. Kamlesh Lulla, Director at NASA, Houston, and a preface by the Secretary of the Assam Publication Board, Shri Pramod Kalita.
In his commendation, Shri Kataria noted that the book’s insights serve as an inspiration to students and intellectuals alike, encouraging deeper engagement with the literary and philosophical treasures of ancient India.
Expressing gratitude, author Salil Gewali acknowledged the consistent support and guidance of senior officer Shri Kuntal M. Sarma Bordoloi, stating that the encouragement played a key role in the successful publication of the Assamese edition, which he has dedicated to the nation.
The book’s expanding linguistic reach continues beyond Assamese. Its Sanskrit edition was prepared under the editorial guidance of Dr. Baldevananda Sagar, known for translating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat into Sanskrit for the past decade. Meanwhile, eminent poet and former Meghalaya Arts and Culture Minister Shri Paul Lyngdoh is currently working on a Khasi translation.
With this publication, Assam joins a growing international effort to disseminate India’s intellectual legacy across linguistic and cultural boundaries, reinforcing the relevance of ancient Indian thought in contemporary global discourse.
