Security forces are presently carrying out an important joint anti-terror operation, named
Operation Sheruwali, in the dense forest areas of Gambhir Mughlan and Dori Maal in the
Manjakote sector of Rajouri district. The operation that started last Saturday (May 23), involves the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF. In a recent significant development during the operation, additional terrorists
were identified.
‘Operation Sheruwali’ began when security forces detected suspicious movement, leading to a direct firefight when hiding terrorists suddenly opened fire on advancing troops. The encounter had started after a joint security team launched a search operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Singhpora-Chatroo area.
Officials said that two to three Pakistani militants are believed to be trapped.

Presently, the terrorists are believed to be hiding deep inside thick forests, which also have natural caves. However, security forces have not had any fresh contact with them since a brief gunfight took place on Saturday (May 23) morning around 11:30 am.
According to reports, security forces including elite Special Forces commandos, CRPF personnel, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been carrying out anti-terror operations in the area for the past six days. After a day’s pause, the Indian Army on Thursday (May 28) once again opened heavy RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) fire on suspected terrorist hideouts in the Dori Maal forests near the Gambhir Mughlan area of Rajouri district. Additionally, the Indian Army has also deployed drones, sniffer dogs, and additional troops to support the search operation.
Meanwhile, the GOC of Northern Command Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma visited the area to review the security situation. According to the Northern Command’s post on X, Lt Gen Sharma met security officials to assess the ongoing operation and improve coordination between different agencies. The post added that he praised the troops for their determination, high morale, and commitment while operating in challenging conditions. He also encouraged all teams to continue the mission with professionalism, precision, and teamwork.
