रामायणाच्या सुरुवातीलाच आदिकवी वाल्मिकी नारदांना विचारतात सर्व भूलोकात गुणी, पराक्रमी, धर्म आणि कर्माचे मर्म जाणणारा, सत्यवचनी, आपले व्रत पूर्ण करणारा, चारित्र्यवान, सगळ्या प्राणिमात्रांचे हित पाहणारा, क्रोधावर नियंत्रण मिळवलेला असा कोण वीर आहे ? या श्लोकातील वर्णन जसे प्रभू श्रीरामांना लागू होते तसेच त्यांचा प्रिय बंधू असूनही अभिमानाने स्वतःला त्यांचा दास म्हणवणाऱ्या, परमप्रतापी, विवेकी भरतालाही तंतोतंत लागू होणारे आहे.
ज्याच्या उजव्याबाजूस शेषावतारी लक्ष्मण, डाव्या बाजूस लक्ष्मीस्वरूप सीता उभे आहेत; ज्याला रुद्राचा अंश पवनपुत्र हनुमान वंदन करतो आहे; अशा या रघुकुलाच्या उद्धारकर्त्याला, विश्वाच्या रक्षणकर्त्या व पालनकर्त्या श्रीविष्णूंच्या अवताराला म्हणजे प्रभू श्रीरामचंद्रांना माझा प्रणाम!
