A intellectual from Kashmir and human rights activist raised the issue of Islamabad's repeated attempts to change the status of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) by amending the 1974 Interim Constitution. Junaid Qureshi also urged the council to prevent Pakistan from carrying out any changes to the status of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Winning it with majority of votes, India won the seat to Human Rights Council at United Nations with the highest votes among all candidates. It has been elected for a period of three years beginning January 1, 2019. India bagged 188 votes in the Asia-Pacific category.
