The Supreme Court has allowed Centre to withdraw remaining four forces from Darjeeling hills after 8th March. Earlier, West Bengal state government strongly protested Center’s decision to withdraw forces from the hills.
After spending a long-term in abscond, the main face of Gorkhaland agitation Bimal Gurung has come to public. The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha(GJM) leader has expressed his wish to talk to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the issue. Earlier, Gurung was stubborn at his position that he won’t talk to the government until it is agreeing to the demand of the different state.
Due to Gorkhaland agitation in the hills, local citizens got deprived of many basic rights during the turmoil period. Now, the government is trying to fulfill the dues to the deprived locals. Now, the government will distribute from Saturday ration due to hill residents.

The queen of hills Darjeeling has been going through a miserable time since Gorkha Janmukti Morcha launched an agitation for a separate state on the basis of different language. While a part of GJM agreed to talk to State government for a political solution another part including GJM chief Bimal Gurung continued the agitation. The West Bengal Police on Wednesday sealed the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s central office in Darjeeling’s Singmari, a stronghold of Gurung.
Due to ongoing violence, agitation in the hill area of Darjeeling, the famous Toy Train service got stopped. The indefinite shutdown stopped many other services in the region. Though the resumption of service is partial tourism industry expressed their happiness over it.

The demand for different statehood of Gorkhas seems to an unsolved crisis in Bengal. Every time Darjeeling tries to go back to normalcy, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha makes it to crawl back to unrest. On Friday shops and some business, establishments were open in early hours. Even some schools were open in early hours. GJM chief Bimal Gurung already warned to prevent any attempt to lift the bandh.
