The Union Cabinet led by PM Modi has approved a hike in dearness allowance and dearness relief by 2% for central government employees and pensioners. An official statement said that the new hike will be in addition to 'the existing rate of 5% of the basic pay/pension, to compensate for price rise'. The hike will be effective from January 2018.

There is good news for more than 50 lakh government employees and 61 lakh pensioners. The Centre on Tuesday increased dearness allowance and dearness relief from 4% to 5%.
