The world today is celebrating the “Women’s Day”. The Indian government is always keen to facilitate women on each and every opportunity. The government has allocated more than 30% of funds under various schemes for women in agriculture mainstream. Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh informed on Thursday.

After elaborating the roadmap to enhance farmer’s income and productivity, the Department of agriculture initiating six new features in e-NAM app which is completely dedicated for farmers. These features would help the farmers get an overall idea of the bidding and trading taking place and also to make it more user-friendly. It will enable the farmers to have a feasible transaction and making it available in regional languages is an added advantage.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said that India is leading in the global coconut production and productivity. In the year 2016-17, coconut products worth of Rs.2084 crore were exported.
India continues to be the largest milk producer in the world since two decades. Notably, milk production which was around 17-22 million tonnes in the 1960s, increased to 165.4 million tonnes during 2016-17. Particularly, it has increased by 20.12% during 2016-17 in comparison to 2013-14 while the income of farmers increased by 23.77% during 2014-17 as compared to 2011-14.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said research and development projects in horticulture crops have yielded encouraging results, as a result, the production of horticulture crops have been more than food grains irrespective of adverse climatic conditions. After China, India is the second largest producer of horticultural crops and fruits.

Overall fish production has increased from 0.75 million tonne of 1950-51 to 11.41 million tonne in 2016-17. India and Italy on Wednesday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in Agriculture and Phytosanitary issues.
