
Fielding questions on Twitter in a live chat, UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey said, Aadhaar is based on minimum information and biometrics which is least intrusive.
He dismissed concerns that linking of various information with Aadhaar could lead to government monitoring, surveillance or possible misuse.
To a specific query on whether UIDAI will go for DNA profiling in future, Pandey said that there were no such plans.
As many as 119 crore biometric identifiers have been issued so far and Aadhaar is required as an identity proof of residents by various government and non-government entities.
Notably, UIDAI had come up with a new two-layer security system, Virtual ID and limited Know Your Customer (KYC) to protect the data in the wake of numerous breaches.
Out of 106.41 crore Current Account and Savings Account (CASA), 82.47 crore accounts are seeded with Aadhaar number. Within these, out of 30.76 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts 22.58 crore PMJDY accounts have been seeded with Aadhaar number, as on 20.12.2017.
